Fishery in Hirtshals
The port's geographical location close to some of Europe's best fishing spots combined with the ferry connections to Norway, the Faroe Islands and Iceland, and motorway E39 provides the port with unique opportunities when it comes to handling and selling fish. In addition, large quantities of salmon are supplied annually from Norway, Iceland, Scotland and the Faroe Islands.
The port has the facilities for landing, handling and sale of both pelagic and demersal fish. At Port of Hirtshals herring and mackerel are landed for processing in Northern Jutland, just as species like haddock, plaice, cod and monkfish etc. are landed for sale at Hirtshals Fiskeauktion (auction). Additionally, there is a supply of fish from Norway, Iceland, Scotland and Faroe Island.
Berth areas
The port has structured and allocated specific port basins and quay areas for berths. The plans have been made so that any vessel type is ensured the best possible conditions and safety against damages etc.

Fish Terminal Hirtshals
Fish Terminal Hirtshals is Denmark's most modern building for handling, sorting and selling fish.
Fish Terminal Hirtshals is created based on an unbroken cold chain, controlled temperature and optimal logistics. At Fish Terminal Hirtshals, the fish is handled under controlled hygiene and temperature conditions - from being landed under a roof at Auktionskajen to the transport from the auction hall by lorries parked in the terminal's locks.

Box washing facilities
The box washing facility is built as an extension of Fish Terminal Hirtshals with direct access to 'Auktionsbassinet' which makes it possible to ensure high-quality work processes around the servicing of fishing vessels.
The facility is a result of a cooperation between the North Jutland fishing unions in Hirtshals, Skagen and Stranby and their joint box washing company Pack&Sea.
The box washer has a capacity of 800 boxes per hour.
Ice factories
Two ice factories can be found at Port of Hirtshals.
The largest ice factory at the port is owned and runned by Fiskernes Fiskesortering and makes up and integrated part of Fish Terminal Hirtshals. The ice factory is designed to deliver ice to a wide segment of users of ice and the factory can therefore deliver ice to both fishing vessels and cars.
The ice factory produces plate ice and is operated by card, which makes the delivery of ice simple and efficient. Settlement of accounts is done automatically by invoice.
On the other ice factory - Hirtshals new ice factory - is situated on the inner part of Industrikajen at East Basin 1 and is runned by Rygaard. The ice factory is based on delivery of ice for lorries that transport mackerel, herring and trash fish.
The ice factory produce flake is and has is automatically operated, which makes the collection of ice efficient and simple.
The settlement of accounts is done by invoice.
