Moonshine is officially open:
New raw culture venue brings life to the Port of Hirtshals
Hirtshals has a new gathering place for culture and community: Moonshine. On Tuesday 17 June at 16:00, the former blacksmith’s workshop at Sydvestkajen will officially open as a versatile cultural venue for local associations and public events.
A raw and industrial atmosphere welcomes visitors to Moonshine, the new cultural space at the Port of Hirtshals designed for concerts, street food events, workshops and creative activities, all with the citizens of the town at its core. The aim is clear: to strengthen the local community and bring life to the harbour all year round.
- Moonshine is more than just bricks and mortar. It provides the framework for what we create together. Here, associations and passionate locals have a flexible space to meet, share ideas and shape the cultural experiences of tomorrow in Hirtshals, says Leif Lund Jakobsen, Head of Culture and Events at Hjørring Municipality.
A user-driven cultural venue
Moonshine is made available by Hjørring Municipality and is managed by a user council consisting of local stakeholders: Byforum, Hirtshals Fiskefestival, Hirtshals Handel & Erhverv, Hirtshals Marina, Hirtshals Turisme, Hjørring Municipality, Musik under Trappen and Vendsyssel – Fritid for Alle. The council coordinates activities, approves users, and ensures that Moonshine remains an open and inclusive place.
All events held at Moonshine must be open to the public and non-commercial. The space may not be used for private parties or closed events.
Official Opening on 17 June at 16:00
- We’re very much looking forward to officially opening Moonshine and to seeing the venue filled with life, sound and light. There’s a lot happening along Vestkajen here at the Port of Hirtshals, and the opening of Moonshine is another milestone in the continued growth of both the town and the port, says Ditte G. Sørensen from Hirtshals Fiskefestival and Head of Marketing & PR at the Port of Hirtshals.
The programme for the inauguration of Moonshine includes:
- Welcome speech by Ditte G. Sørensen, representative of the user council
- Live music by Biver & Anja
- Free fishcakes and beer/soft drinks served by the user council
