Workforce Of The Future 2023: 220 students take over Port of Hirtshals for a popular event.
On Thursday, September 14th, it will be the ninth consecutive year that Port of Hirtshals welcomes the annual event, Workforce Of The Future, held in Hirtshals. This event aims to provide students with the opportunity to explore local career options, both in Hirtshals and at Port of Hirtshals. A total of 29 local businesses in and around Port of Hirtshals will open their doors to showcase to 220 students what the local job market has to offer.
Workforce Of The Future has now reached its ninth year in Hirtshals, and interest in the event is growing from both students and businesses. Since its inception in 2014, when the event first took place with the participation of 80 students and three companies, it has grown significantly, now involving 220 students and 29 companies.
In addition to being a co-organizer, Port of Hirtshals also contributes by opening the doors to technical services and the port office. Linn Indrestrand, Head of Fishery & Maritime Services and co-organizer of Workforce Of The Future, emphasizes the importance of the event: "This is the 9th time we are hosting this event, and we learn something new every year. Now we have an amazing event that creates a strong connection between the business community at the port and the schools in the municipality. The collaboration between the business community, Hjørring Municipality, and the schools creates tremendous value that benefits everyone. It is important to show Hjørring Municipality what fantastic opportunities we have here in Hirtshals, and that Hjørring Municipality has a port we can be proud of, offering a wide range of job opportunities in one place."
The day begins at The North Sea Oceanairum, where the 220 students receive a brief introduction to the day's program. Subsequently, the students are divided into 21 groups to visit the 29 participating companies in and around Port of Hirtshals. The purpose of these visits is to inspire students to consider their future career paths and expose them to the numerous local educational and job opportunities available in Hirtshals and at the many companies on Port of Hirtshals.
In preparation for the day, the students have received visits from the organizers of the event, where they have been well-prepared for the participating companies and maritime concepts. A special board game, "The Game," developed by the organizers, has assisted students in understanding the involved companies and the maritime world.
Workforce Of The Future is a result of collaboration between Port of Hirtshals, Dansk Metal, FH Nordjylland, EUC Nord, Hirtshals Service Group, Hjørring Municipality, Ungegarantien, and Erhvervsservice Nord.
